You might use Claude to understand a tricky concept, watch a YouTube video to explore it further, and turn to another AI to practise what you've learned.

Each tool becomes part of your learning journey, but how much do they know about what you've been doing elsewhere?

That's where LMNTS comes in. It helps connect your learning context across the apps you use, so Claude can look up what you've studied, what you already understand, and what you're working towards, even when that context comes from somewhere else.

Connecting Claude takes about three minutes, and you won't need to write any code. The only slightly tricky part is finding the right settings in Claude, so let's walk through it.

Before you start

You'll need a LMNTS account and Claude open in your browser or the desktop app.

One thing to keep in mind: Claude's free plan allows only one custom connector (see Anthropic's guide). If you're already using that slot, you'll need to remove another connector or check whether a different plan works for you.

Step 1: Get your connection link from LMNTS

Sign in to LMNTS and click Connections in the sidebar. This opens the Manage Connections window.

Click Connect new app in the top-right corner.

You'll see a welcome screen. Click Continue, then choose Claude from the app picker.

LMNTS will generate a personal connection link for you. Keep it somewhere safe because you'll need it in the next step.

A quick security reminder: Anyone who gets hold of this link may be able to use your connection. Treat it like a password and avoid sharing it with anyone.

Got the link? Let's head over to Claude.

Step 2: Add LMNTS to Claude

LMNTS provides a button that opens Claude's Add custom connector window. Click it to get there directly, or open it in Claude yourself.

You'll see a form with two fields. Enter the following:

  • Name: Eli MCP
  • URL: Paste the personal connection link you copied from LMNTS.

Click Continue.

Claude will check the connection details and should automatically select No sign-in. Look for the Detected label beside it.

Click Add, then Connect to finish adding the connector.

Claude may also show a warning that anyone with the connection link could use the connector. That's why it's important to keep your link private.

Set up the tool permissions

You're almost there. Claude separates LMNTS's tools into two groups:

  • Read-only tools: Let Claude look up your learning context and help you decide what to study next.
  • Write tools: Let Claude save learning notes and run quizzes.

You'll find these in Claude's tool permissions settings. Set both groups to Always allow if you're comfortable letting Claude use them without asking for approval each time.

You can choose more restrictive permissions if you'd rather approve tool use as it happens. Just expect Claude to ask you for permission more often.

LMNTS is designed to help you keep track of your learning progress, including what you've studied and what you understand. Before connecting, take a look at the available tools and LMNTS's data practices so you know what information is being accessed and saved.

Once your permissions are set, there's just one thing left to do.

Step 3: Connect Claude to your learning context

Head back to LMNTS. You'll see a short message and a Copy prompt button.

Click it, open a brand-new chat in Claude, paste the message, and send it.

A chat message reading Eli, Let's connect. Here's the secret handshake, followed by a one-time phrase

Leave the message exactly as it is. It contains a one-time phrase that Claude sends to LMNTS to verify the connection.

Here's how it works:

  1. Claude sends the phrase to LMNTS.
  2. LMNTS verifies it.
  3. Claude appears as connected in your Manage Connections window.

The phrase expires after about ten minutes, so send it soon after generating it. The whole process should only take a few seconds.

Check that everything works

Now ask Claude:

“Eli, What should I study next?”

If Claude can use your existing learning context to suggest a relevant next step, you're good to go.

From here, you can keep learning with Claude and let LMNTS help it pick up where your previous sessions left off.

Something not working? Here's what to check.

The pairing phrase expired

These phrases are only valid for about ten minutes. Go back to LMNTS, click Generate a phrase, copy the new prompt, and send it in a new Claude chat.

The connection link expired

If you didn't finish the setup in time, LMNTS may have invalidated the link. Click Get a new link and start again from Step 1.

Claude keeps asking for permission

Return to Claude's tool permissions and check the settings for both groups. If you want fewer interruptions, select Always allow for each group, provided you're comfortable granting that access.

Claude won't let you add the connector

If you're on Claude's free plan, you may already be using your one available custom connector. Remove an existing connector if you no longer need it, or check your plan's available features.

If the settings look different from the screenshots, check Anthropic's guide to custom connectors for the latest instructions.

Want to disconnect Claude later?

You can do that anytime.

Open Connections in LMNTS, select Claude, and disconnect it. Then remove the LMNTS connector from Claude's connector settings too.

If you decide to connect Claude again later, you can start the setup fresh.

Connect your other AI tools

If you also use ChatGPT or Gemini, you can connect those to LMNTS as well. That way, your learning context can travel with you as you switch between the tools you already use.

Here are the setup guides:

Claude occasionally updates its interface and connector settings. If a screen has changed, Anthropic's custom connector guide is the best place to check.
